Seeing a sign at the beginning of a path indicating it's not being maintained immediately puts a smile on my face as an adventurous cyclist. This winding trail certainly offered plenty to smile about. Technically navigating around the rocks and tree roots, it's not the fastest, but it is the most enjoyable local cycling route for gravel bikes and mountain bikes.

Jack Drake Bothy was constructed in the 1930s as a shooting bothy during the ownership of the Drake family on the Inshriach estate. Now it serves as a simple bothy for walkers and cyclists in the Inshriach Forest. It has room for four people to sleep inside.

Located in a very tranquil place. Bothy has no fireplace or stove. The bunk bed is large. Very clean and tidy, clearly someone maintains it.

The narrow path from the bothy north to Loch an Ellein is more gravel/MTB compatible than a straight touring bike. West from the bothy is a nice wide gravel track.

This part is mainly a hiking trail or suited for advanced Mountainbikers. Wouldn’t recommend any other bike (gravel, e-bike etc.) but absolutely nice scenery :)

Sections of the ride are steep and full of gravel, so riding uphill can be a struggle. There is a narrow path, which meets up with the main path again, which is easier to ride.

Very scenic. Good path for hike/bike around the loch. Gift shop (not Tuesday). Toilets. Car Park £3 - cash or contactless. Nice swim out to and around the castle island.
