The remoteness is amazing and Corrour is the highest Rail station in Britain

So much birdlife in this area which Jan helps to nurture from her home at Loch Ossian hostel. Jan offers a safe haven in this wild and remote place (for birds and humans alike!)

The station, known from the film Trainspotting, is one of the smallest and most remote stations in Europe and is served by the railway line from Fort William, among others. In the station building there is a restaurant which offers hot and cold drinks, delicious cakes and hot snacks.

Look towards the trees to find a boulder with a plaque for Angus Rodden, born 17 June 1941. I couldn’t find out who he was, but there is a nice flat tentsite just behind the boulder with a great view.

fantastic place to stay, camp, swim

The Loch boasts stunning views from all corners, by my favourites are the initial ones looking across these small islands. We had cloud cover, but I'm sure on a clear day they would be even more impressive.

This is a stunning little station in the middle of nowhere and well worth a visit, with cakes, meals, drinks and souvenirs for sale.

This is a gorgeous little station in the middle of literally nowhere, famous for the one used in the trainspotting film. There are only 4 staff working on site and they are welcoming and warm, I would truly recommend a journey here for a spot of lunch or even a stay in the signal box.

Great food.. toasties, venison burgers, smoked salmon platter etc - only accessible by foot, bike or train so not overcrowded. Tables outside and in!

The train station contains a nice bar with small gifts, wifi, a fireplace, boardgames and a little restaurant. There's also the possibility of staying in their B&B, but it's cheaper to stay in the Youth Hostel close by at the side of Loch Ossian.

Really nice and very welcoming cafe. It was the perfect place for breakfast and a great coffee (or 2) after a night camping by the Loch.

Situated at the highest mainland railway station in the UK, the fantastic food that awaits is best reached not by rail but by bike via the superb Road to the Isles

Beinn na Lap is one of the smallest and easiest Munro mountains to climb at 3,068 feet (935 m). It's a very long way from the nearest public road, so we got the train in to Corrour from Roy Bridge station near Fort William. We stayed at the Loch Ossian youth hostel which is perfectly placed at the foot of the mountain.

The Corbett is, as a hill, a rather rounded pudding, but commands one of the most wide-ranging views in the Highlands.
