Follow the path next to the river from weatherspoons

A prominent landmark in Salisbury's centre, the Poultry Cross is a Grade-I listed structure. Originally built in the 14th century, the cross was used to indicate the site of former markets and is the last surviving of four in the city, the other three being the Cheese Cross, Barnard's Cross and another that stood on the site of the wool market.

This is a beautiful riverside park with splendid views towards Salisbury Cathedral. Created in the early 1960s to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, it's been a popular spot for locals ever since. You can run through the park to pick up the Town Path, which ventures across Salisbury's water meadows to the suburb of Harnham.

The Town Path connects Salisbury's centre with the suburb of Harnham, starting from the picturesque Queen Elizabeth Gardens and taking you through the city's water meadows. Celebrated Romantic artist John Constable painted one of his most famous works here in 1831. 'Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows' is regarded as one of the masterpieces of British art.
