Busy locks! Bit of a f*cker if your flow gets interrupted - but always make sure pedestrians are primary user! Pretty to look at!

The Caen Hill Locks are one of the highlights of Route 4 on the Avon K Canal. Physically this is interesting. The water flows down the mountain, but the ship floats up the mountain lock by lock due to its own buoyancy.

Roundway Down is an Iron Age hill fort that can be seen for many miles around. This steep-sided, wildlife-rich chalk grassland down has fantastic views from the top. It's also a great place to spot wildflowers and butterflies in summer.

Carved in 1999, the Devizes Millennium White Horse is the youngest of Wiltshire's carved White Horses and is located at bank field, close to Roundway Hill.

Nice gentle ride up by the flight of locks.

The chalkland summit views were stunning. But the climb on a gravel bike, through wet clay & mud, was too much my elderly 55 year old legs, so, I ended up pushing the bike!

The Caen Hill Locks is a flight of 29 locks. They have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km). The locks take 5–6 hours to traverse in a boat.

A great gravel byway that is a well earned reward for the climb out of Heddington.

Vast views, but can get very muddy!

Watch out for dogs walkers in this popular spot. There are many trails and dogs and walkers can come from any direction. Also look out as you head from the open areas into the thick trees at dusk as you may suddenly find you can see the cross cross Or roots under your wheels.

Caen Hill Flight Lock No 42 is a minor waterways place on the Kennet and Avon Canal (Main Line) between Horton Bridge No 134 (Bishops Cannings village 1 mile north) (4 miles and ¼ furlongs and 8 locks to the east) and Avoncliffe Aqueduct (southern end) -crosses the River Avon and the Bath - Trowbridge railway line.

The outside seating area is directly on the Kennet and Avon Canal and this is the nearest pub to the famous Caen Hill locks, which are a 5 minute walk under the bridge and along the towpath.

The Kennet & Avon Canal has awesome examples of canal engineering. The 16 locks that form the steepest part of the flight at Caen Hill are not only a scheduled ancient monument, they are an Olympic sized challenge every boater must do. This 'wonder of the waterway' is literally a rite of passage! (Or should that be a flight of passage?)
