Can someone please be happy/laughing with me that Google Translate turns Amy's "henge and timber monument" into "Denkmal für Hühner 🐔" in German? - Great 😂😂😂

Larkhill Camp – Eerie Order on the Edge of the Plain Larkhill Camp feels like riding through a live blueprint of military precision. This historic garrison town, perched on the northern edge of Salisbury Plain, isn’t your typical village stop — it’s a place where wide tarmac roads stretch between regimented rows of near-identical housing blocks, all arranged with deliberate symmetry. Founded in the late 19th century as an artillery training base, Larkhill is still an active military camp, home to the Royal Artillery. You’ll feel that presence in the design — everything is clean, uniform, and spaced out. There’s a peculiar quiet, even when the camp is busy, and it lends a kind of surreal calm to your ride through. While not a classic beauty spot, it’s fascinating in its own right — a moment of stark contrast between the ancient wildness of the Plain and the tightly ordered world of the MOD. It’s not uncommon to hear distant explosions or spot helicopters overhead. And just beyond, the landscape opens up again into chalk trails and flint-edged bridleways. 🚴♂️ Bikepacker Tip: Water and supplies are limited here — the camp isn’t set up for tourists — so fill up in nearby Durrington or Amesbury if you’re heading across the Plain. Watch for MOD signs, especially if venturing off-route. 📍 Highlight Type: Urban/Military Landmark 🌄 Surroundings: Military roads, open grassland, access to training areas 📷 Vibe: Surreal, stark, historically charged

You can take a nice cross country hike from the interesting historic Woodhenge ancient monument to the global icon that is Stonehenge. If you do this hike then you will save the parking and entry charges at Stonehenge (£30 ish). If you pay you get to go closer to Stonehenge (about 30m) but you get to within 70m on this walking route. You simply end up on the other side of the fence to the ticket purchasers. Plus you get a good walk out of it. Depends on what you want? Parking at start point. Hike Route - https://www.komoot.com/tour/1058100383

7월 5, 2021, St. Leonard's Church, Bulford
Dating back to the 12th century, this simple yet impressive church sits on the edge of Bulford, near the River Avon. The south tower was built in the 13th century and the entire building remains in excellent condition. The church is an important part of this small community and holds many events and local meetings throughout the year.

Lying within the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, Woodhenge is a Neolithic Class II henge and timber circle monument. It wasn't discovered until 1926 when a pilot took an aerial photo of the area. The monument was probably built around 2300 BC as a large burial mound. The site is managed by English Heritage and free to visit. You can visit anytime during daylight hours. A Neolithic settlement dating back to around 2800 - 2100 BC, Durrington Walls is an interesting part of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. Excavation works by the University of Sheffield found that a settlement of around 1,000 houses would once have existed on the site. Although small by today's standard, it would have been the largest village in northern Europe for a short while. Managed by National Trust, there is a great 4 mile (6.4 km) circular walk to discover Durrington Walls. You can park your bike in Woodhenge car park. A beautiful place from the same time as Stonehenge, without any tourist crowds and entrance fees. Nice place, definitely come by. 2km west in Larkhill you can park very well, from there it is only a mile walk to Stonehenge. Also without congestion and queuing, only the tickets for inner zone you do not get there (but still can run on one side up to 30m - with ticket stop on 16m and from all sides).

Woodhenge is basically a wooden circle. Similar to Stonehenge, several circles of wooden steel were erected. Of these wooden staves, however, only the grave holes were preserved. The concrete blocks in the picture should clarify their positions. The steel should possibly have been up to 9 m high.
