The concrete outlet tower serves as the central control point for the reservoir's water supply. Connected by a bridge to the main dam, the tower houses sluice gates and valves that regulate the flow and distribution of water to the River Chew and the local water supply.

Nice cycleway, well used, but not overcrowded and away from traffic noise

Great stretch of road, I know I am nearly at Bristol, or just getting started. Either way I cannot help but stop and enjoy the view, just stunning.

The old railway, which still has some use, widens at this point. Several trains and carriages can be seen parked up. It is part of the Bristol & Bath railway line

The road leading out of the small village of Butcombe offers a visually appealing cycling route, framed by Blagdon and the stunning Mendips in the distance.

The tunnel lights were designed so you can see while not disturbing the bats. People using bright lights risk disturbing the bats and blinding other users. While you may feel using lights improves your ability to see and be seen they distract other users making it more difficult to see walkers, dogs etc.

An excellent section of bike path just off the Bath to Bristol. It is laid with tarmac and goes past the old colliery. Note that towards the end at the woods it can get quite muddy. This is especially so in Winter and especially if you take the fork on to the Dramway towards Westerleigh.

The tunnel lighting was upgraded in late 2023 and you can now easily see other riders, runners or pedestrians, so you do NOT need dazzling front lights any more. In the interests of safety and to avoid accidents PLEASE dim or dip your light when in the tunnel!

Chew Valley Lake is the 5th largest artificial lake in the UK. It was constructed in the 1950s to supply drinking water for Bristol and the nearby area. There are brilliant views of the lake and surrounding countryside as you pass along the dam.

From Norton it's a drop to a ramp and then a reasonably long drag along a single track road with tall hedges. From Chew Magna it's a little sharper and a fair bit shorter. Either way the view is just before or after the crest of the climb.

Warmley Forest Park is a 27-hectare park in Warmley, South Gloucestershire, England. It is situated on the site of former extensive clay quarrying, and until recently it lay derelict. However, it has since been developed into a popular spot for walking, running, and dog walking. The park has a variety of habitats, including woodland, grassland, and ponds, and is home to a range of wildlife, including birds, bats, and insects. There are also a number of historical features in the park, including the remains of a former railway line and a disused quarry. Warmley Forest Park is open to the public all year round and is free to enter. There is a small car park located at the entrance to the park, and there are also a number of public footpaths that lead to the park from nearby villages. The park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and to get some exercise. It is also a great place to learn about nature and

Brandy Bottom Colliery is a former colliery in Pucklechurch, South Gloucestershire, England. It was a steam-powered colliery that operated from the early 19th century until the early 20th century. The colliery was located on the line of the Dramway, a horse-drawn railway that was used to transport coal from the Coalpit Heath area to Bristol. The earliest written record of Brandy Bottom Colliery dates from 1837, when a shaft was sunk at the site. The colliery was owned by a number of different companies over the years, including the East Bristol Collieries Company and the Avon Industrial Buildings Trust. The colliery closed in 1936 and has been derelict ever since. Brandy Bottom Colliery is a scheduled ancient monument and is a popular spot for historical walks and bike rides. The colliery is also home to a number of rare plants and animals, including the lesser horseshoe bat.

The old mill here was used to grind corn but never snuff. Apparently the name comes from the nick name of the old miller who was known as "Snuffy Jack". Today Snuff Mills refers to the old mill, weir and park land along the river Frome.
