Highly recommended at the moment: Ebersteinburg town center closed due to construction (May 2025)! Therefore, very few cars! (Ask Google Maps if you can get through by car)

The castle complex presumably originated from a Franconian estate, originally built on a Roman site. What is certain is that the castle already existed as a defensible moated castle in the 13th century. Incidentally, there was also an "upper castle" in Neuweier – where the church stands today. Unfortunately, nothing remains of it.
