There are significantly more shady sections on the western side than on the eastern side. The route is best suited for moderate temperatures.

It's always worth heading over to France and exploring new routes. :) There are some very good bike paths there. I occasionally cycle to the neighboring country. :)

The castle complex presumably originated from a Franconian estate, originally built on a Roman site. What is certain is that the castle already existed as a defensible moated castle in the 13th century. The full history can be read here: https://schloss-neuweier.de/geschichte/ The castle can generally only be viewed from the outside (it is not a museum). Incidentally, there was also an "upper castle" in Neuweier – where the church stands today. Unfortunately, nothing remains of it.

Just behind the Rhine dam there are well-paved cycling and hiking trails and the "EDF road", a stretch that invites you to speed, but be careful, there are often speed cameras here.
