Gothic-style castle, dating from the late fourteenth century, located in the center of the Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón municipality, in La Rioja Alta. Built with ashlar masonry from the region, the castle stands out for its square-plan keep. In addition, the fortification took advantage of the river as a defense ditch. Although you cannot visit its interior, it is worth contemplating it from the outside while walking along the banks of the Tirón River.

Elegant temple of Baroque work from the 18th century that stands next to the Tirón River. The church was built between 1753 and 1766 with stone blocks extracted from the quarries near the municipality. It stands out for its unique façade where curved elements are used that manage to convey the sensation of movement and dynamism. Right in the center of the façade rises a tower with an octagonal section body with columns.

Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón is a municipality in the Rioja Alta. The river Tirón crosses it and it is at the foot of the El Bolo forest. From the bridge you can admire the Church of San Miguel Arcángel and the Castillo de los Velascos.

It is a spectacular place, one of the most important but least known in La Rioja. The monastery and all the history it collects is impressive. With a guided tour you learn a lot and the price is very affordable.

Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón is a municipality in Rioja Alta. It is crossed by the Tirón river settling at the foot of the El Bolo forest. One of the landmarks of the town is the bridge that crosses the river and from where you can see the Church of San Miguel Arcángel and the Castillo de los Velascos.

The church of San Miguel in Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron stands directly on the river and is part of the architectural ensemble of the Plaza Mayor, which is lined with baroque mansions. It is an elegant baroque building from the 18th century, built between 1753 and 1766 from sandstone blocks from nearby quarries.

This church, which is dedicated to the Holy Cross (Latin "Santa Croce"), relates its patron saint to the cross on which Jesus Christ died. The veneration of the Holy Cross goes back in large part to Saint Helena, who was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great (who, after his victory at the "Milvian Bridge" outside Rome, recognized Christianity as a religion and in 312 the long time of persecution ended with the Milan “Tolerance Edict”). In the early fourth century she undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel / Palestine) and brought numerous relics from there to Europe, including the "True Cross" on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Helena is therefore often depicted with a cross as an attribute. The Church celebrates the feast of the discovery of the Holy Cross - called "Exaltation of the Cross" - on September 14th.
