Ledesma still preserves a large part of the granite stone wall that has historically surrounded the entire town. Most of what remains today was built during the reign of Ferdinand II of León in the 12th century, although several sections were renovated in the 15th century with well-hewn stonework.

The Roman Bridge of Salamanca forms part of the Silver Route (Vía de la Plata), which connected Mérida with Astorga. Although its origins are Roman, dating from the 1st century AD, only the fifteen arches closest to the city are from this period; the other eleven underwent several reconstructions as a result of flooding of the Tormes River.

The Public Library of Salamanca, also known as the “Casa de las Conchas”, is a very active and diverse cultural space. It is a stately mansion from the time of the Catholic Monarchs that combines late Gothic, Mudejar and Renaissance styles. Its construction began at the end of the 15th century by order of Rodrigo Maldonado de Talavera, although it was his son, Rodrigo Arias Maldonado, who finished it and lived in it. It owes its name to the more than 300 shells represented on its façade, which are arranged in staggered rows, following a rhomboidal composition typical of the Mudejar style.
