This is not a highlight when you have to drive next to a four-lane road with heavy traffic, more of a necessary evil.

Once called Fladstrand, Frederikshavn got his modern-day name from King Frederik VI of Denmark. It's a city of around 22.000 inhabitants and it's famous for its harbour, which connects Denmark and Sweden.

The Powder Tower (built 1686-1690) is a three-story Martello tower. The upper gun deck houses various types of artillery. On the lower floor, there is an exhibition about the history of Fladstrand and the harbor. This was the base of the naval hero Tordenskiold during the Great Northern War. Shelter overlooking the sea

There is almost always wind on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, just like on the North Sea Cycle Route. 🤣 No matter which direction you choose. The cycle paths are mostly in very good condition.

From here you have a good, sheltered view of the island of Hirsholm and the lighthouse. Behind you is the Nordre Skanse archaeological site.
