The Muralla tardo romana in León, Spain, is an impressive remnant of the Roman presence in the city. These walls were originally built in the 1st century AD by the Legio VI Victrix and later reinforced by the Legio VII Gemina. The walls enclose the old city centre and are a mix of Roman, medieval and Baroque architectural styles1. The Roman sections are recognisable by their thick walls, which are up to 8 metres high and reinforced with towers, known as "cubos". One of the most striking sections of the wall can be found at the Avenida de los Cubos, where the towers are still well preserved.

Its main square, Plaza de la Constitución, offers a postcard view with its meticulously pruned trees and the partially whitewashed church tower, in a contrast also present in most houses. An adorable fact about this mining town is that in a nearby copper and cobalt deposit that began to be exploited in 1916, a unique mineral was found in the world that was designated as "villamaninite", since it was in this town where the minerals from the mine in the trains.

The landscape of La Robla has been marked for decades by its cement plant and its thermal power station. The first continues to operate at full capacity after a reform in 2004 that made it one of the most modern facilities of this type in Europe. The second was closed in 2020 as part of the closure of all coal-fired power plants in Spain, its two cooling towers being demolished in 2022 and radically changing the environment again, just as they did when they were built.

The Bernesga River steals the limelight from La Pola de Gordón as it passes through it. The bridge that connects the main nucleus with the station neighborhood tries to counteract the presence of the river, but it only manages to do so from certain angles. La Pola is not jealous, however, and embraces the river as the essence of the town's personality.

The central part of the square presents a garden with a wide fountain with water jets and small waterfalls. In the center of the fountain is a pedestal on which stands the statue of Guzmán el Bueno, a bronze sculpture placed in 1894, the work of the sculptor Aniceto Marinas.
