Church of St. James the Elder (Bocholtz). A chapel was first mentioned in 1373. This chapel belonged to the church of Simpelveld. During excavations north of the present church, the foundations of a single-nave building with a narrower chancel ending on the right were discovered. Surrounding these foundations were further foundations of a larger building from the late Middle Ages. The parish was established in 1794 and legalized in 1803. The church was built between 1869 and 1873 according to a design by the architect Pierre Cuypers. In 1953, the church was extended on the chancel side with a spacious new chancel designed by the architect Harry Koene. This is built of a different type of brick and is therefore clearly recognizable. A new rectory was also built north of the church. At the height of the new choir stands the Sacred Heart statue from 1920, which was originally placed in front of the church.
