It is a short stretch of cobbled road in the Despeñaperros park that is preserved in very good condition. It is attributed a Roman origin, but some researchers point to a later origin, possibly coming from the Middle Ages. In any case, it is a symptom of progress based on the movement or displacement of armies or individuals from the center of the peninsula to the south or vice versa. Surely, if you do not know the exact location of its location, you will pass it by because the current dirt track passes right next to it.

To get to Puerto del Rey (1,132 m) we have to climb quite hard, also on a gravel road. This port was an important mountain pass during the Modern Age from the Plateau towards Andalusia. It is located within the Despeñaperros natural park, a protected space, excavated by the Despeñaperros river. Resting after the good climb, you can enjoy the typical flora of the entire Sierra Morena, especially holm oaks, cork oaks and pines.
