Zafarraya Old Station At the foot of the imposing Boquete de Zafarraya rock face lies the former terminus of the historic Vélez-Málaga – Ventas de Zafarraya cog railway. Opened in the early 20th century, the line was intended to connect the coast to Granada, but closed in 1960. The route was known for its spectacular mountain scenery and steep slopes. In front of the building, an old manual switch still stands, a tangible reminder of Andalusia's railway history. Today, the station building has been restored and is a landmark along hiking and cycling routes through this border region of Málaga and Granada. Tip: Take a moment to look around – the views of the Zafarraya gorge and plain are magnificent.
