The monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad, better known simply as the monastery of La Piedad, in Casalarreina, La Rioja, is a monastery of contemplative Dominican nuns. It is a spectacular place, one of the most important but least known in La Rioja. The monastery and all the history it collects is impressive. With a guided tour you learn a lot and the price is very affordable.

Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón is a municipality in Rioja Alta. It is crossed by the Tirón river settling at the foot of the El Bolo forest. One of the landmarks of the town is the bridge that crosses the river and from where you can see the Church of San Miguel Arcángel and the Castillo de los Velascos.

This church, which is dedicated to the Holy Cross (Latin "Santa Croce"), relates its patron saint to the cross on which Jesus Christ died. The veneration of the Holy Cross goes back in large part to Saint Helena, who was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great (who, after his victory at the "Milvian Bridge" outside Rome, recognized Christianity as a religion and in 312 the long time of persecution ended with the Milan “Tolerance Edict”). In the early fourth century she undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel / Palestine) and brought numerous relics from there to Europe, including the "True Cross" on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Helena is therefore often depicted with a cross as an attribute. The Church celebrates the feast of the discovery of the Holy Cross - called "Exaltation of the Cross" - on September 14th.

This little church is right next to the big church. It is originally from the 12th century. Particularly impressive is the portal. Sightseeing possible on request.
