This bridge was the only one to allow the crossing of the Arve until the construction of the Pont Neuf in 1850. I recommend the climb via "Nancy sur Cluses", a good winding climb with gradients of 13-14%, I saw a few French cycling clubs pass me and take this route :-) With luggage on the racing bike it's a real challenge (for the Route des Grandes Alpes - an insane test start).

The Chartreuse de Mélan is a former monastery belonging to the Carthusian order, located in the commune of Taninges in Haute-Savoie, in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The charterhouse received nuns. It was then transformed into a small seminary, then into a departmental orphanage. It now hosts a departmental cultural center. The Chartreuse was classified as a historic monument in 1911.
