I recommend the climb via "Nancy sur Cluses", a good winding climb with gradients of 13-14%, I saw a few French cycling clubs pass me and take this route :-) With luggage on the racing bike it's a real challenge (for the Route des Grandes Alpes - an insane test start).

It can blow hard up there! I recommend the path that goes down to La Tour from the east

Wonderfully located in a protected valley, a wonderful hiking destination for a rest, in summer with a hut that is open all day, otherwise only on weekends or not at all.

The route des Grandes Alpes is adventurous. I drove from Thonons les bains to Menton, 17 passes. The downside is the loud traffic, especially motorbikes. It would be quieter on the MTB route. Komot didn't have good navigation here at the time
