This statue, inspired by a painting by Raphael that can be seen in the Louvre in Paris, represents the Archangel Saint Michael slaying the dragon. On the base we can read that it comes from the Tusey foundry in Meuse.

The fountain consists of a monumental hexagonal basin in yellow sandstone in the center of which a column of water feeds it through 4 outlets and supports a golden cast iron statue.

This fountain has been located since 1958 in the Saint Michel square, Route de Haguenau in Marienthal. We owe it to Mademoiselle Valette who asked for it to be erected in 1908 in front of the neighboring basilica, a place of pilgrimage.
