Nestled in a valley between wooded hills, this peaceful village is a gateway to the Vosges. During the First World War, it was close to the front, which is still visible in the area via bunkers, trenches and memorials. Today, Ban-de-Laveline is a popular base for hikers and cyclists, with routes to the Col d’Hermanpaire, the Spitzemberg and the nature reserve around the Tête de Raves. In the village itself, you will find a sober Église Saint-Laurent, a classic Monument aux Morts, and a peaceful atmosphere that invites you to explore.

This rock shelter linked to a fort is that of the commander of the cartographic section. Inside there is a table, a stove, a bed, a telephone and electricity. This is where all the information obtained by the observers on the massif arrives.

The foothills of the Vosges offer perfect terrain for mountain biking. In addition to the hilly terrain dotted with paths and trails, there are beautiful views, such as here over the Meurthe Valley.

Near the Col de Sainte-Marie, a short climb leads to this rock on which an old castle, the Château de Faîte, was erected. The Revolution and the two world wars destroyed the fortifications which are now in ruins. The ridge on which the rock is located was indeed the subject of numerous clashes between French and Germans in the 20th century.
