It was in 1732 that “a Royal earthenware factory” was established in the small town of Samadet, which produced earthenware with rich and colorful decorations for more than 100 years. The factory will employ a workforce with specialized know-how and its production will be widely distributed, notably through the port of Bayonne. But, in 1838, the Manufacture could not resist the competition and closed its doors. The museum, created in 1968 by the Earthenware Committee and given to the Department in 1998, preserves the memory of this epic; it tells the history of Samadet earthenware and that of tableware.

Thank you Dorothea for your tip! There was no service when we arrived, but the atmosphere touched us so much! So many architectural details to admire! Yes, and on the square in front of the cathedral we finally enjoyed café au lait et croissant again!

Beyond the beautiful bridge, the beautiful view and the very pleasant village square, the banks of the Adour are a very good spot to cool off and snack on the way, especially when there are tables!

It is very touching to come to this church for service after you have made it up the mountain to the town center. There are also places to stop for refreshments near the church.

Very nice stretch on quiet side roads. P.S. Under the imaged palm tree, it got me on my 1,400 km tour across France: My only 'breakdown' caused by their own mishap. The chain had jumped. As a souvenir lies since then, carved to the tool, palm branch in the bicycle cellar.
