The statue is accessible from the inside. Through the small peepholes, which are accessed via a fixed ladder, you have a fantastic view.

Good elevation gain, but avoid the circuit in wet weather due to the muddy paths

High above the town and the surrounding area of Le Puy-en-Velay, in a very prominent position, stands the Virgin Mary - who is venerated here under the title "Notre Dame de France" - with the baby Jesus in her arms. The builders of the statue certainly wanted to ask for Mary's blessing for the town and the country.

From up there you have a wonderful view of the city.

Historical monument: https://www.pop.culture.gouv.fr/ First mention of the bridge: 1264 In the past, the Way of Saint-Jacques passed here on one of the main paths leading to Puy-en-Velay. The five meter wide structure extends over a length of more than 200 meters. Only two arches span the riverbed. The rest covers cultivated land, probably indicating that the river bed was once larger. Two buried arches serve as cellars. The bows are irregular and low and show a slight break with old lace, except for one bow which has been completely redone in modern times. The northern end presents a state of disrepair which could predate the Romanesque period. This structure testifies to a construction prior to the gabled bridges of the Gothic era.

A major religious building in Puy-en-Velay, Notre-Dame Cathedral offers at 7 a.m., every day from April 1 to October 31 and at 7:30 a.m., Monday to Friday, from November 1 to March 31, the blessing of pilgrims. Whether you are walking towards Compostela or not, this stop is a must in the city.
