The 5th Engineer Special Brigade was responsible for the Omaha Beach sector. Its primary tasks were to clear mines and obstacles, create vehicle lanes, rescue the wounded, and assist the infantry during the landing. Despite heavy shelling, the brigade managed to secure the landing zones, thus enabling the supply and movement of Allied troops. The monument commemorates their courage and sacrifice.
