The climb to the pass and the descent are difficult and steep, all in a scree field, the markings are not always visible. Not to be underestimated.

The Col de la Sauce is a Col de France, in the Alps, in Savoie. It is located in the south of the Mont-Blanc massif, at an altitude of 2,307 metres, between the Gittes ridge to the east and the Merles rocks to the west, north of the Cormet de Roselend and south of the Col du Bonhomme1. It is accessible on its sunny side by a hiking trail taken by the GR 5 and the Tour du Beaufortain between the Plan de la Lai (1,820 m) to the southwest and the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme refuge (2,443 m) to the northeast via the Gittes ridge (2,538 m)1. On its shady side, another trail comes from the hamlet of Gittaz (1,660 m) to the northwest or from the Col du Bonhomme (2,329 m) to the north via the Sausse mountain pasture (2,000 m).

https://youtu.be/eu_RPR989TI The view gives you the feeling of being at the highest point above all the surrounding mountains. View hundreds of kilometers over all the peaks. Relatively easy to push up from Les Chapieux, which is already at 1700m. From Trento it is very, very steep and can be reached over blocked, stony scree with a lot of climbing.

The Col du Bonhomme is located in the south-east of Haute-Savoie and entirely within the municipal territory of Contamines-Montjoie, the administrative limit with Beaufort passes on the side of the pass, about one kilometer further south than the line peak1. It constitutes a relatively easy natural passage between the Bonhomme rock and the Pennaz needles, thus making it possible to communicate the Montjoie valley to the north with the Beaufortain to the southwest1: the two sections of the old national road 202 interrupted between the Chapieux to the south and Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge to the north were to be connected via the Col du Bonhomme before the project was abandoned. The Col du Bonhomme is known for its singular Sandstones, a predominantly siliciclastic sedimentary system discovered by de Saussure in 17792, and whose origin is enigmatic3.

The Roselend de Beaufort cormet is 20.3 km long with a total altitude difference of 1227 m. The average slope is 6.04% with maximum slopes of 9.6%. It's an epic climb that takes you from the valley at Beaufort up to Lake Roseland and it's pretty damn impressive, before continuing to the summit at around 2000m above sea level. If you wish, you can go back down the other side towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

The Col du Bonhomme (elevation 2,329 meters/7,641 feet) is a classic! Fantastic views make up for a pretty steep climb. It's really quite beautiful up there.

The large refuge is located at 2443m, at the crossroads of the Tour du Mont Blanc, GR 5 and Tour du Beaufortain trails, south of the Mont Blanc massif, facing Beaufortain and the Vanoise National Park. It's a popular refuge so gets booked up well in advance during peak months for overnight stays. It’s a welcomed sight for refreshment if you have made the steep climb up from Les Chapieux.
