Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen (Notre Dame Cathedral) The Primatial Cathedral of Our Lady (French: primatiale Notre-Dame) is the cathedral of the archdiocese of the same name and the most notable monument in the city of Rouen, in the Normandy region of France. Notre-Dame de Rouen is one of the largest and most sumptuous Gothic churches in France; its Tour lanterne boasts the record of having the highest spire (flèche) in the country and the third in Europe 96 meters above the ground, which made it the tallest building in the world between 1876 and 1880. Since 1862 it has been recognized as a historical monument of France. Admire the ornate architecture, stained glass windows, and the monument to Joan of Arc that sits in front of the basilica. The basilica also offers a panoramic view of the Seine and the city of Rouen.
