The retention dam, located between the municipalities of Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf – from which it takes its name – and Saint-Maurice-l’Exil, crosses the natural arm of the Rhône (right arm), connecting the town of Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf to the Île de la Platière on the left bank. The 140 m wide dam has six 20 m passes equipped with 12 m high gates, separated by 4 m thick concrete piers. The dam bridge is a 174 m long reinforced concrete girder bridge (168.80 m opening), with seven 28 m spans. Over a width of 8.80 m, it carries a 6 m long, two-lane, two-way roadway, bordered by two sidewalks lined with parapets made of mixed material (concrete-metal). The upstream sidewalk is separated from the roadway by a low wall. Shelters are located on the downstream side of the piers. The ViaRhône cycle path continues on both sides.

The Brotherhood of the White Penitents, owners of the Calvary Chapel, was founded in 1578 by the Capuchin Father Matias de Saladin. The Calvary Chapel was built in 1724. Unfortunately, the brotherhood was dissolved in 1777, and the chapel was abandoned. Then, in 1844, the brotherhood reformed and raised the chapel from its ruins. Mass was celebrated there on May 3 and September 14. In addition, the penitents made a procession depicting the Passion every year on Maundy Thursday. In 1892, the brotherhood ceased again, and the chapel remained abandoned until 2000. Finally, it was the Association of Friends of the Calvary Chapel that undertook to restore it with the help of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela. The shell construction was completed in 2005, and the interior decoration in 2008. To the left of the door there is a door opener for the pilgrims.

From the col de l'Oeillon, we descend to the crest of the three teeth. The single is technical, lots of stones, vegetation but the view is incredible! We can clearly see the crests of Pilat which overlook us as well as the Rhône valley. This geological formation of the three teeth is worth seeing.

Overlooking the Pilat, superb view that can go as far as the Alps on a clear day

Additional challenge at the Crêt de l'Oeillon, we are getting closer to the Alps but be careful the path is very technical to climb and cross these peaks

From the Col de l'Oeillon we descend to the Trois Dents ridge. The single is technical, there are a lot of stones and vegetation but the view is incredible! We can see perfectly the Pilat crests which overlook us as well as the Rhône valley. This geological formation of the Three Teeth is astonishing and worth the detour!

A very nice pass to add to his record! To do from Chavanay, Malleval, la Terrasse sur Dorlay, Saint Julien Molin Molette, Bourg Argental. The hardest is by Chavanay due to the length and the elevation, 1st category pass all the same! Don't hesitate to stop at the Faucharat belvedere for a magnificent view of the Rhône valley. At the pass you can climb to the Crêt de l'Oeillon which adds barely 150 m of elevation gain for a breathtaking 360° view if you still have some at the top! In theory the road is reserved for services for the telecom relay but cyclists and walkers can pass.

Superb summit to do in the extension of the col de l'Oeillon. It certainly adds a little difficulty but the view is worth the detour! The telecommunications pylon is impressive and visible from all the way down the valley. Tip to enjoy the view, do not hesitate to go around the enclosure of the pylon on foot to go to the other side where a huge carved stone cross, an orientation table and a breathtaking view awaits you.

A real must-have that must be earned. Superb view, beautiful height. In my opinion, the most beautiful ascent is via Doizieux and the saws.

Difficult to climb to the top through this side but with a little effort the reward is there.

The chapel is high above Chavany, but the climb is worth it. You have a wonderful view of Chavanay, the Rhone and vineyards. The foundations of the chapel date back to the 16th century. Inside you can see depictions of St. Jacob several times. The Way of St. James "Via Gibnensis" leads directly past this chapel.

The second most remarkable summit of Pilat behind Crêt de la Perdrix, this giant of gneiss and granite unveils, from its 1,364 meters above sea level, its trump card: a bird's-eye view of the peak of Trois dents and the valley of the Rhône stretching out at its feet. On a clear day, the gaze is lost until strange appearances which imprint their relief on the horizon line: the Vercors mountains, the Ecrins and the Mont-Blanc range, for a natural spectacle that is both unreal. and majestic.
