In southern Germany, Switzerland, and Flanders, the term "Wette" (Wett, Weed, or Flemish Wedde), first documented in the Franconian and shortly thereafter in the Alemannic language area, is known. This word originally referred to a horse watering place. It is derived from *wetten*, meaning 'to drive animals into the watering place,' which in turn is derived from *waten* (thus literally meaning 'to make someone or something wade'). I was hoping for more from the city center, nothing special. At least there was some delicious ice cream from the local ice cream parlor, good for a quick break on the bike :)
