The Talcy Windmill, which dates from the 18th century, consists of a stone base topped with a cone which supports a wooden cabin (the Hucherolle) which rotates with the wind. It is one of many mills in the region and its configuration is very particular and fascinating.

The Menhir de la Sixtre is a megalithic stone which stands upright and whose color and texture are very interesting. It's worth taking a break from your hike to appreciate it.

Talcy Castle is a Renaissance castle built in the 16th century. You can walk around the castle and admire its architecture, which combines classical and medieval elements. You can also learn about the history and culture of the people who lived and loved the castle, such as the poet Pierre de Ronsard, who wrote his famous sonnets for Cassandre, the daughter of the castle's owner.

As I stroll from one castle to another on the banks of the Loire, I write in my notebook about the nuclear power plant of Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux: "While passing Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux, I discovered a new kind of castle. Concrete has replaced freestone and large chimneys, more commonly known as cooling towers, evaporate thick masses of compact wadding. It is a heap of modern materials, ingeniously installed for the sole purpose of producing inexpensive and less carbon-intensive electricity. Two reactors of a model called CP-2 generate for one nine hundred and fifteen megawatts, for the other eight hundred and eighty. Annually, the two reactors create twelve thousand gigawatts, the estimated annual need for almost three million inhabitants. In other words, a technological feat.
