The hut is on the direct path to the summit of the Piton de Neiges. The hut is very simple (there are no showers and only three toilets in total, not separated by gender). You sleep either in shared rooms in the hut itself (up to 15 beds) or in military tents (each with 8 beds). There are no pillows, just wool blankets. So don’t forget your hut sleeping bag. There is no drinking water. However, water is sold in bottles by the landlord for currently (09/2023) €3 per liter. There are also snacks like KitKat and other drinks like Cola. The dinner was also rather simple, but very tasty and more than sufficient. There is the option for breakfast. An advance reservation should be made either online or by telephone with the innkeeper. Anyone who would like to eat must also register 48 hours in advance. All in all, we can recommend the hut, but you should be aware in advance of what you are getting yourself into!

The refuge of the Dufour cave, also called "gîte du Piton des Neiges" is located at an altitude of 2,400 meters. This essential stopover is accessible in summer and winter alike and has about 70 places divided between dormitories and bungalows. It is strongly recommended to book your nights and meals at least 48 hours in advance. Access to water is also limited, so remember to bring enough. Lots of bad comments about the refuge but we were lucky enough to be able to chat with the caretaker who is passionate about it and above all to taste a sausage rougail at 2500m.

Yes, I wish you the best of luck. As I see, there are two of you, it's always better, especially when you go into the caves... The weather isn't particularly good... but always take something non-slip with you because nothing is secured, certainly none Paths that are marked in the 16th century.....Emergency kit is also a good idea because there was no emergency call at least during corona times or the iPhone emergency button worked but neither heli nor anyone else came in 3 days.... . HAVE FUN Chevaliere suzanna anna von Kleve

Superb waterfall near the village of Grand Bassin. It is the water that flows from this waterfall and forms a basin that gave the name to the islet. Only accessible on foot via a rough path, this place is ideal for cooling off.
