The church, located in the village of Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne, dates from the first half of the 11th century and was then dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Aubin d'Angers; its rich past is reflected in its architecture. We enter the vaulted chapel (added to the original building in the 19th century) with the baptismal font. We discover the nave, which is connected to a bay whose 13th century vault rests on older walls. We then enter the choir, the only part of the building with a 12th century vault, where we can admire the ceiling with a pointed barrel vault. Outside the church, we see the Benedictine priory of Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne, a picturesque building founded in 929 that was formerly dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Aubin d'Angers. This church, open from Easter to All Saints' Day, is part of the network of "Reception churches in Anjou" open to the public. The Joreau pond is part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park. Created by monks for fish farming purposes in the 18th century, it now hosts many walks.

The Château de Brissac is the first of the seventeen Loire châteaux that we visited to truly move us. This castle, still inhabited by the Duke and Duchess of Brissac, is in a very good state of conservation, exceptional! Whether it is the Louis XIII furniture, the 17th century tapestries, the paintings, everything is absolutely well preserved. This castle smells of love of heritage and encaustic and what we discover there is an accumulation of the luxury of centuries; thus in the banquet room, this small balcony installed by Duchess Jeanne Say at the end of the 19th century (heiress to Say sweets, which you will find today in your supermarkets under the name Béghin-Say); this theater installed by Jeanne on the top floor of the castle... A superb discovery that is absolutely worth the detour.
