6월 28, 2025, Eglise St Lubin

The unfinished church built after the other church near the Châtel in the 13th century. From the town website: In the 13th century, the inhabitants of Yèvre-le-Châtel obtained permission from the Bishop of Orléans to build a parish church in the cemetery. However, following the intervention of the monks of Saint-Benoit-sur-Loire, the bishop reversed his decision and work was interrupted. Work resumed after the Hundred Years' War, but the church was never completed. Furthermore, in 1708, the bishop authorized the sale of stones and materials that had fallen onto the ground, resulting in Saint-Lubin being both unfinished and in ruins. The building, with a single nave and two bays, is perfectly homogeneous. The structure, in the shape of a Latin cross, ends with a flat chevet, characteristic of the 13th century. The romantic remains of this church were admired by Victor Hugo in the 19th century.

Very beautiful village which is definitely worth the detour. You can notably discover its castle, built in the 13th century under Philippe Auguste. Don't hesitate to dismount and take a walk in the pedestrian part of the village.

Amazing town of Pithiviers, the Saint Grégoire chapel cave, refuge of a hermit. The fortress of Yévre le Chatel [Located on a spur, at the limit of the territory of the Carnutes and the Senons, the oppidum protected a communication route, then two Roman entities after 52 BC. The site overlooked the Roman road from Sens to Le Mans. After the Christianization of Gallo-Roman Gaul, the Rimarde river was the border between the bishoprics of Sens, parish of Saint-Martin de Souville; and Saint-Lazare Leprosarium and the bishopric of Orléans, parish of Saint-Gault and Saint-Lubin. This division remained until the 19th century. Around 1200, on the orders of Philip Augustus, the castle was rebuilt according to the latest improvements in military architecture brought back from the Crusades, in particular relief arches increasing resistance to undermining work. a long history that you can discover on the websites. There is also a path to Saint Jacques The road to Saint-Jacques coming from Moret-sur-Loing From Moret, the Jacquets wishing to venerate the relics of Saint Mathurin went to Grez-sur-Loing, quickly reaching Larchant. From there, they headed towards Orléans to join one of the great roads of Saint-Jacques, that of Tours. do not forget Pithiviers le Vieille [Indeed, the village of Pithiviers-le-Vieil, located on the border of the Carnute and Sénon countries, is at the crossroads of the great Roman roads Orléans-Reims and Sens-Le Mans. A jewel of Gallo-Roman culture with its sanctuary made up of eight indigenous-type temples or fana, this place was frequented since Antiquity because of its curative springs in the Segray valley.

Château d'Augerville is a historic castle located in the commune of Augerville-la-Rivière, in Loiret, France. It dates back to the 12th century, when it was a hamlet and fort for the d'Augerville family. It changed hands several times during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and hosted important figures such as Catherine de Medici and King Charles IX. In the 17th century, it was sold to the taxes and renovated into a country house by Jean Perrault de Montevrault. It remained a private residence until the 21st century, when it was transformed into a 5-star hotel with a golf course, spa and chocolate factory. It is a historic monument, a national heritage site of France.

Using the power of moving water to drive a mill wheel is an ancient invention that dates back to pre-Christian times. Thanks to such a construction, human or animal muscle power could easily be replaced by a watercourse - natural or artificial - in order, for example, to grind grains into grain. There are essentially two different ways to drive water mills: either the water simply hits the blades of the water wheel from below to set it in motion; or the water flow is guided above the wheel and falls onto the blades, with this design there is greater efficiency due to natural gravity.

A private Louis XIII-style castle, it has a magnificent park crossed by the Egg, a river taking its source in the forest of Orléans and flowing into the Essonne. There is also an 18th century dovecote.

The Moulin de la Porte marsh is an ecological setting located to the east of Pithiviers. A variety of flora and fauna inhabit this 20-hectare wetland. Popular with walkers, the marsh is also a leisure activity for hikers who travel through the Egg Valley. In the heart of the marsh, a discovery trail decorated with educational panels tells you more about the richness of its nature.

The Château d'Augerville is an imposing building whose construction dates back to the 12th century. In 1976, it was registered on the list of historical monuments. Today, the castle has been completely transformed and offers a wide range of services: hotel and spa, restaurant, or even golf. If you don't have time to enjoy these, at least take the time to discover the beauty of these old stones.

Through this alley, over the stone wall, you can enjoy a pleasant view of the ruins of the Château des Deux Tours and the garden of the Théâtre des Minuits. The ruins correspond to the last vestiges of one of the two medieval castles built here by the powerful abbey of Ferrières in Gâtinais. Work is undertaken every summer to restore and upgrade the site. This historic site has been invested by the Théâtre des Minuits, to make it a place of cultural life, creation and performance. The land spreading out behind the ruins has been laid out as a free garden, far from the conventions of the French garden. In particular, it houses a rose garden with more than 200 roses.

The origins of this estate date back to the 13th century with the construction of a fortified castle on the banks of the Essonne. Fallen into ruin, it was bought in the 15th century by Jacques Coeur, great treasurer of King Charles VII who used to acquire the fiefdoms abandoned after the Hundred Years War to regroup them as he pleased. The general appearance of the buildings as we see them today comes from this period. But, falling into ruins at several times in history, the castle has lived, evolved and metamorphosed many times. It has remained a prestigious place and now houses a luxury hotel.

At its peak, the town of Yèvre le Châtel obtained the right to erect a second church outside the fortifications. But this was not completed, because the village had collapsed following the Hundred Years' War. The remains moved Victor Hugo who evoked them in a romantic way. The reputation thus acquired by these ruins allowed them to be classified as historical monuments.
