The Castle of Pierrefonds (French: Château de Pierrefonds) is an imposing castle near Pierrefonds on the south-west edge of the Forest of Compiègne, north of Paris between Villers-Cotterêts and Compiègne, in the l'Oise department. It was founded in 1076 by Hugues le Blanc, lord of the region, and was one of the richest abbeys in the Middle Ages at the time.
