A challenge with full luggage, as the Robert Pass is currently closed. Traffic was quite bearable. The pass hut was rather busy, but it was also Whitsun. I can't imagine what would have been like if the weather had been perfect.

There's regular information on the ascent, gradient, and distance to the pass. I'm familiar with this from the Alps, but the information here is more beautifully presented.

One option is to take the D996 to Cola de la Croix-Morand or a smaller road to Col de la Croix Saint-Robert, but this isn't possible at the moment. Nice information for cyclists regarding the climbs.

The ascent of the Col de la Croix-Morand, which peaks at 1,403 meters above sea level, can be done from Mont-Dore (6.9 kilometers at 5.3%) and from Chambon-sur-Lac (9.3 kilometers at 5.6%). The view is sublime at the top, allowing you to observe the surrounding puys.

Aydat Lake is located at an altitude of 850 meters. It is the largest natural lake in Auvergne. It was born from the lava flow from two wells. Today, it is a place where several nautical activities can be practiced. I highly recommend a quick stop at the terrace of the La Cocotte Bleue restaurant. The view and the welcome are simply perfect!

This emblematic pass of the Auvergne region is the Col de Guéry, located at an altitude of 1264 m. From here you will have a view of the Puy de Dôme and the Puy de Sancy, as well as the volcanic Lake Guéry at the top. The Col de Guéry was part of the 2020 Tour de France, so you can compete against the pros on this route.

The Château de Saint-Saturnin, in Puy-de-Dôme, is a medieval fortress built in the 13th century by the La Tour d'Auvergne family and subsequently became a royal residence for Catherine de Medici and Marguerite de Valois. You can explore the impressive architecture and beautiful gardens of the castle, as well as the charming village of Saint-Saturnin, which has a Romanesque church and offers panoramic views of the Monne valley. The castle is open for guided tours from April to September, and you can also stay overnight in one of the guest rooms or suites.
