A beautiful view of the landscape from the D996.

A challenge with full luggage, as the Robert Pass is currently closed. Traffic was quite bearable. The pass hut was rather busy, but it was also Whitsun. I can't imagine what would have been like if the weather had been perfect.

Very pretty village. Magnificent Romanesque church. And incredible roads.

The ascent of the Col de la Croix-Morand, which peaks at 1,403 meters above sea level, can be done from Mont-Dore (6.9 kilometers at 5.3%) and from Chambon-sur-Lac (9.3 kilometers at 5.6%). The view is sublime at the top, allowing you to observe the surrounding puys.

Very impressive ancient volcano chimney

A very well-preserved example of medieval military architecture. This castle was built in the 12th century by Robert Dauphin, Count of Auvergne, to defend the Sioule bridge and was enlarged in the 15th century by Gilbert III de LaFayette, Field Marshal of France. The keep and six towers are still preserved. The castle is inhabited by the descendants of the Moré de Pontgibaud family, who have owned it since 1756. This emblematic pass of the Auvergne region is the Col de Guéry, located at an altitude of 1264 m. From here you will have a view of the Puy de Dôme and the Puy de Sancy, as well as the volcanic Lake Guéry at the top. The Col de Guéry was part of the 2020 Tour de France, so you can compete against the pros on this route.
