From here, you can see the Kyllburg Collegiate Church in the distance. Situated at the highest point of the mountain ridge surrounded by the Kyll River, it is arguably Kyllburg's most important building. The church was constructed in three major construction periods. Archbishop Henry II built the choir and the two adjoining vaulted bays from 1276 to the end of the 13th century. Construction of the nave and the west façade began at the end of the 14th century. Local sandstone was used for this. The holes in the sandstone blocks show where the lifting tongs were inserted during construction. The collegiate cathedral was built in the third and final construction period, which fell in the first quarter of the 16th century. The church's most valuable furnishings are the Renaissance stained glass windows donated in 1533/34, depicting biblical scenes and the two founders, James and Bernard. The church, with its patron saint, St. Peter, dates back to 1526. Due to its dilapidated condition, a new building was constructed in 1781, which still stands today. Above the vestibule entrance, it displays a chronogram addressed to St. Peter, dating from 1781. The church in Orsfeld still preserves a late Gothic, larger-than-life crucifix measuring 200 meters in height. In the church in Orsfeld, there is a tabernacle made of light gray sandstone in the north wall of the chancel. The niche is enclosed by a grille, surmounted by a trefoil, containing the figure of St. Peter. In his right hand, he holds a book and in his left, the key. The church is administered by the Catholic parish office of the Assumption of Mary in Kyllburg.

Orsfeld in the Eifel region is not a particularly large town, with around 170 residents. Nevertheless, the village has everything it needs: animals, a church, and a school. Although the school has long since ceased to offer classes, the large building still stands as a community center at the center of village life. It also serves as a residential building. Where the former school stands, Schulstraße forks in three directions. On one side, the road leads to a large livestock dealer, whose houses clearly show that his business is doing well; on the other side stands the simple wooden house of a married couple who care for abused animals. I never would have expected to find this beautiful spot here. The gorge isn't really that big, but it's so beautiful here; you feel like you're in another world. You can sit on a bench and enjoy the silence; only the sounds of nature and the faint sound of traffic can be heard, but you have to ignore that. A true gem 🥰 that I highly recommend.

The niche cross on Waldstrasse dates from 1650 and originally stood on the connecting road to Dudeldorf, framed by three poplar trees. Its builder was possibly Asmus Peter. There was probably a Pieta in the niche, which was protected by a grille. The Horkreuz was erected in the 18th century by Jacob Hor from Metterich at the age of 22. It is opposite the Waldhof on the edge of the forest. The upper relief of the Pieta is original. At this point, the fighter pilot Claus von Bohlen und Halbach, a son of the Krupp family, crashed. There is also a memorial plaque for him in the neighboring chapel.
