Guillestre is a beautiful town, located at 1050 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by some of France's iconic climbs and is the ideal starting point for the Col d'Izoard and Col Agnel.

This variant of the main road allows you to avoid a certainly spectacular stretch of the climb towards Chateau Queyras, but also rather dangerous for cyclists, due to the narrow carriageway, the lack of escape routes and the numerous tunnels and bottlenecks that meet. After Guillestre the detour is indicated (turn right, at the next crossroads turn left). One hundred meters of additional climb must be taken into account to complete the variant and also the sometimes bumpy bottom.
