The medieval town of Lescar The first traces of life in Lescar date from 2,000 years before our era. History has left many testimonies, such as that of the Gallo-Roman city that was Lescar at the time when it was called Beneharnum. Today, one can notably see in Lescar Gallo-Roman remains, 12th century ramparts, a 14th century prison tower, its cathedral in its heart... Everything invites you to wonder. Lescar has always been at the origin of stories and legends, such as the one stating that Lescar had seven churches, seven mills, seven fountains, seven springs, seven gates... The atmosphere of the medieval town of Lescar helps to transport us through time, along its narrow streets and back passages.

Built at the beginning of the 18th century, the Rousse chapel is located on the slopes of Jurançon in the middle of the vineyard. Offering a view of the Pyrenees, it is also the place for varied activities around Béarnaise culture (music, dance, parties and also sports: trail and mountain biking). Benches and picnic tables are present nearby around a large oak tree. In case of rainy weather conditions, a courtyard is there for shelter.

Medieval town of Lescar

The bridge is accessible from the V81 and allows you to cross over the Gave de Pau. Gave means "stream". It is 190.7 km long. Its most upstream source is located in the Cirque de Gavarnie. The large number of plastic waste present on the banks of the Gave represents one of the negative sides of the latter as well as of many rivers. Pay attention to your trash ;)

This magnificent church, which is attached to the diocese of Bayonne, Lescar and Oloron, is just as superb inside as it is outside. You will indeed find within its walls a baroque altarpiece dating from the end of the 17th century, as well as a mosaic dating from the 12th century. Also enjoy the meditation and the view of the Pyrenees.

Nice bike path along the river to Pau. The town itself has a lot to offer, the castle, a funicular, botanical gardens, beautiful architecture and of course lots of bars, restaurants and shops.
