The Romanesque church of Huriel, built in the 12th century, was once the seat of a priory dependent on the powerful Abbey of Déols, a Cluniac monastery in Berry. Built of Jarges granite, it blends Auvergne influences with its superb octagonal bell tower with blind arcades, reminiscent of those of major churches such as Saint-Nectaire or Saint-Saturnin.

Near Sainte-Sévère, a pretty little road will take you to the Moulin Vieux, then to the Moulin Gras from where you can reach the Retord mill either by taking the footbridge over the ford then a path or by continuing the road towards the places called Chassières (be careful, it's a climb!), La Paire, Les Granges.

You are here, at the highest point in the Cher department and the Centre-Val de Loire region. It rises to an altitude of 504 meters. The roads leading there are quiet and peaceful.

Boussac is a charming town overlooking the Petite Creuse. Built around its castle, the town is also characterized by its picturesque streets and the facades of its turreted houses.

We no longer know where to look. On one side the Culan viaduct, a former railway line passing over the Arnon and rehabilitated as a pedestrian path. On the other, Culan Castle which stands on its rocky spur in the distance. We can see particularly well from the bridge its wooden hoardings, the wooden elements under the roof which were used to throw projectiles at the attackers and which we rarely see anymore on the fortresses which had them.

Castle in excellent condition, mainly built between the 12th and 15th centuries. It follows two previous buildings destroyed in the 10th and 12th centuries. Mazarin ordered in 1651, at the time of the Fronde, the destruction of part of its structure (entrance castle, top of its keep and certain areas of its ramparts). Its last owner, who died in 2020, tried to bequeath the castle to the Cher department, which refused due to the excessive cost of maintenance. The visit is possible every day between Easter and All Saints’ Day. Medieval weekends and thematic visits are also organized there during part of the summer.

La Toque à Huriel is one of the few quadrangular donjons from the 12th century remaining in France. While running, you can admire the impressive medieval fortress, which was once the residence of the powerful lords of Huriel, and admire the panoramic view from the top of the tower. The dungeon also houses a museum which presents the local heritage and culture of Huriel.
