The path from the Europahütte to the Domhütte is partially secured with ropes and chains and should only be attempted by sure-footed hikers. You should allow approximately 2.5 hours for the ascent, which can take quite a while in the blazing sun. Most people who want to climb here naturally head to the Dom the following day. At 4,546 meters, it's the highest mountain located entirely in Switzerland.

The summit tour to the Dom starts in Randa in the Matter Valley. Parking is available in the village (e.g., in the parking garage at the train station) and there's the opportunity to refill your water supplies before the strenuous climb to the Domhütte.

I did this hike in early May 2024, just a few days after the ski season was over and the slopes had closed. The valley was completely deserted and it felt magical! The peaks were still covered in snow, but the first signs of spring were beckoning. On the final stretch to Lac d'Arpitetta, I was wading through snow up to my knees. Without proper gear I couldn’t get any farther than the small lake. The view on that crystal-clear spring day was absolutely fantastic! Check the picture I uploaded with all the peak names added.

Very beautiful and quiet place with interesting hiking opportunities. Europahütte, 494m long suspension bridge, Vitaparcours towards Täsch ....

The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps is almost 500 meters long and spans the Grabengufer from the Lärchberg to the Höüschbiel - at the highest point 85 m above the ground. Access is free and provides a thrill, as pedestrians walk on gratings through which they can see the valley floor. When it was built in 2017, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

The Roman Catholic church of Randa is dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The baroque church is registered in the Swiss inventory of cultural property of regional importance (KGS inventory).

The Bis Glacier is located on the east side of the Weisshorn (4506 m). The hanging glaciers on the northeast face of the Weisshorn are also part of the Bis Glacier. Parts of these hanging glaciers collapse from time to time and threaten the railway and road near Randa as well as parts of the village.
