The village of Lacapelle-Biron experienced dark times during the passage of the 2nd SS Armored Division Das Reich in 1944. In memory of this period, a departmental deportation monument was erected on the village square. Nearby, the hamlet of Saint-Avit offers a beautiful architectural ensemble that is well worth a visit.

Today owned by the Dordogne department, the castle recognized as a Major Site in Aquitaine and classified as a Historic Monument! It presents a set of buildings whose diversity and superposition of styles still testify to the past power of this family of valiant soldiers and powerful lords, firmly introduced into the immediate entourage of the Kings.

This magnificent castle is open to visitors. In summer you will find many activities there, even including night markets within its walls. It is located on a hill and has defensive constructions. It is a fine example of a castle. Like most castles in France, numerous architectural transformations have taken place over the centuries. All year round, magnificent works of art are exhibited in the large rooms. One of the owners of this castle, Charles de Biron, met a rather tragic end because suspected of plotting against King Henry 4, he was beheaded in the courtyard of the Bastille prison castle in Paris in the 17th century.

This tiny village of Lacapelle-Biron would be the presumed birthplace of Bernard Palissy who belonged to the French Renaissance school. To pay homage to the child of the country, takes place every summer at the Bernard Palissy museum an exhibition of ceramics.

Beautiful chateau on a hill. When you drive in from the south, you suddenly see the chateau looming through the trees. Long run-up with a short, tough climb to finish.

Classified as 'Site Majeur d'Aquitaine' (one of the main sites of Aquitaine), Biron castle is the seat of one of the four 'baronies' of the Périgord. Over time and through various events, this originally primitive fortress has undergone several changes. Each century has left its mark on the appeal of this exceptional architectural ensemble. Located on a hill, on the border of the Périgord and the Agenais, the castle was the heart of a large area of 'serf' agriculture (agricultural exploitation in which part of the harvest went to the baron and part remained the property of the farmer ).
