Start in La Punt at the Volg. The route has a maximum elevation gain of 100 meters, depending on the variant. At the end, accelerate again on the straight stretch along the Inn River. Return to the Volg.

The funicular railway consists of two carriages connected by a wire rope that passes over a turntable at the top station. The downhill carriage pulls the uphill carriage with minimal additional energy consumption. The two carriages meet halfway along the route, which is why the single-track line has been double-tracked for a short section.

The Muottas Muragl railway was the first funicular in the Upper Engadin. Von Roll built it between 1905 and 1907. The drive was renewed in 1930, 1966 and 1992.
