A popular vantage point and landmark of the municipality of Überherrn is the monument 'For the Great Europeans'

The 7km hike, which is signposted with the European Star-Spangled Banner and partially follows the longer "Beruser Tafeltour," leads on both sides of the German-French border along gravel paths over the rounded ridges of the Saargau region, offering beautiful views that are slightly hazy in autumn, and along pleasant paths through wooded sections. Highlights include the Europa transmitter with its broadcasting hall and six transmission masts (not open to the public), the Oranna Chapel, a Marian grotto in Berviller, and the Europa Monument.

🙏 **Lourdes Grotto near Berviller-en-Moselle – A Quiet Place of Prayer** At the edge of the forest near **Berviller-en-Moselle** lies a small **Marian Grotto**, modeled after **Lourdes**. It was built in the first half of the 20th century and has served as a place of devotion and silent prayer ever since. 🕯️ The statue of the Virgin Mary is embedded in an artificial rock setting, surrounded by benches and flowers. A place that locals regularly visit – whether for intercessions, thanksgiving, or simply a break in the countryside. **Tip:** It's particularly atmospheric in the early morning or in the soft evening light. The grotto is somewhat hidden but is easily accessible via a small path.

The route allows you to access the source of the Halberg by following the markings. A good spot to cool off.

Inaugurated in May 1970, this monument is intended to "express the European-democratic attitude of the border population on both sides of the border." The two pylons represent the countries of Germany and France, which have been at war with each other for centuries. The metal bars in the upper area symbolize the friendship that developed after the Second World War.

A detour here is definitely worth it and the grotto is beautifully lit at night!
