While staying on the asphalt, you can cover more than 24 km. From the St. Brice Courcelles side, you can go up to La Neuvillette, then to Courcy, it's an unpaved road (passable but not for road bikes). After Courcy, there's asphalt up to Berry au Ferry (this allows you to discover the Sapigneul Owl, about 150 m on dirt road). On the other side, after Sillery, you can continue to Beaumont (asphalt). Then, on a dirt road passable by mountain bike, you can go to the Billy Arch, where the canal passes through a tunnel.

During construction work, remains of a Roman house (domus) were discovered three meters below ground, including pilasters and a road leading toward what is now the Banque de France. The building's reconstruction was made possible after the Duke of Guise repaid a debt of 22k livres to the city.

The Reims City Hall has served as the seat of municipal government since 1499 and features a square design with four wings surrounding a central courtyard. Originally built between 1627-1636 by city architect Jean Bonhomme, the building was completely destroyed by fire during World War I in 1917 and subsequently reconstructed, with President Gaston Doumergue inaugurating the rebuilt structure in 1928. The south-facing facade is crowned by an octagonal bell tower and features an equestrian statue of Louis XIII trampling two prisoners.

An impressive half-timbered building made of oak. Except for two metal parts, it is made entirely of wood, with wooden dowels (no nails or screws). At the front, there is a washhouse and a well. According to https://www.reims-tourisme.com/activite/halle-de-lagery/: Built in 1543 in the center of the village of Lagery, the hall was dedicated to trade. From the 16th to the 18th century, there was a market every Tuesday and two or three annual fairs: agricultural markets, grain, wine, livestock, firewood, timber, building materials, industrial goods, etc. This building was listed as a historic monument in 1922. The hall, which was in danger of collapsing and had to be reinforced in 1983, was restored between 2003 and 2007. Since 2010, the town hall and the Lagery Festival Association have organized an arts and crafts market there every spring Sunday.

The Reims Town Hall, also known as the Hôtel de Ville de Reims, is an impressive example of Renaissance Revival architecture and has a rich history: 🏛 History & Architecture Construction started: Nicolas Lespagnol laid the foundation stone in 1627; the building was designed by architect Jean Bonhomme. The first section was occupied in 1628, and the large façade was completed around 1630 Stylistic features: Symmetrical 19-bay façade with three floors, decorated with classical column orders (Doric on the ground floor, Corinthian on the upper floor, and Ionic on the towers), combined with an octagonal bell tower. Above the entrance is a half-relief of King Louis XIII on horseback .Extensions: In the early 1820s, the square layout was completed with an additional pavilion on the Rue de Mars (by 1825) War damage & restoration: Heavily damaged by German artillery in 1917 during the First World War. Reconstruction began in 1924 under the direction of Bernard Humbold, also involving Roger-Henri Expert, Paul Bouchette and sculptor Paul Berton. The rebuilt building was officially reopened on 10 June 1928 by President Gaston Doumergue .🏷 Monumental status Recognised as a monument historique by the French government since 1862 . 🎨 Statues & decoration On the front facade is a statue of Louis XIII on horseback, centrally above the entrance (nice close-up can be seen in one of the images).

The town hall, partly built between 1627 and 1636 and completed in the 19th century, has decorative elements in the Renaissance style: antique orders and niches. The twisted columns and the curled pediment reflect the Baroque spirit of the period. The sloping roofs and high chimneys are typical of the 17th century. The bell tower is inspired by the bell towers in the north. Equestrian statue of Louis XIII on the central pavilion. Coat of arms of Reims on the balcony.

A green vein of peace and movement that stretches for 24 kilometres along the Aisne-Marne canal. Once an old towpath, now a lively promenade for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. This green corridor winds through Reims, connecting city life with nature, passing historic sites such as the old bathhouses, Port Colbert and charming parks. An unexpected oasis in the heart of the Champagne capital, where history, sport and relaxation come together.

There are a few houseboats on the bank, otherwise the canal is very quiet.

The Place Royale in Reims is a square built in the 18th century in honor of King Louis XV. The square has a classicist style with arcades and a bronze statue of the king in the center. The square was once the center of the Roman city and is located next to the Place du Forum. The square is one of the sights in Reims.

In 1917, the town hall burned down, but the façade (early 17th century) was preserved. The town hall is now better appreciated by the large pedestrian square. Note the beautiful pediment with an equestrian statue in bas-relief of Louis XIII.

For example, you can easily follow the canal to Condé-sur-Marne. There you come across the Marne Canal. You can then follow this either to the left into tranquil Chalons-sur-Marne, or to the right into lively Épernay.

Pretty market hall in the otherwise rather inconspicuous village. For car-free driving, the small road to Aougny is recommended.
