The "Eiermann Building" was built in 1938/39 as a fire extinguisher factory according to plans by the later highly renowned architect Egon Eiermann. For this purpose, a textile factory originally built in 1906/07 was expanded and converted into a highly modern industrial building. The large glass windows and the roof terrace with a structure reminiscent of a ship's deck are external features. Eiermann's modern style is also evident inside, although the production of fire extinguishers ceased in 1994. After a long period of inactivity and thanks to the efforts of the Friends of the Eiermann Building, the International Building Exhibition (IBA Thuringia) relocated its headquarters to the Eiermann Building. Following the "Open Factory" concept, the factory building was converted into a space for creative and community-oriented uses. The guiding principle for the construction measures was "How little is enough?" In 2024, the city of Apolda's "temporary museum" was established on the ground floor and first floor. It serves as an alternative location for the Bell and City Museum while its original building in the city center requires renovation. The primary user, however, is the Thuringia Building Culture Foundation, which has also taken over the legacy of the IBA Thuringia and is responsible for continuing the IBA's developments and promoting building culture in the Free State of Thuringia. Events are also regularly held in the hall or on the wonderful roof terrace.

Auerstedt Castle was the headquarters of the Prussian army during the famous Battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806. Today, you can visit not only a small memorial and a local history museum, but also marvel at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar's magnificent collection of historic carriages. If you're up for it, you can stay longer: The castle houses a hotel, vacation apartments, and a restaurant.

The Eiermann building is the only building designed by the architect Egon Eiermann in Thuringia. Originally built as a weaving mill, fire extinguishers were produced at the site from the 1930s until 1994. Eiermann expanded the industrial building designed by the Apolda architect Hermann Schneider between 1938 and 1939, sensitively and attentively continuing the existing building structure while at the same time incorporating the functional and aesthetic requirements of his time. Egon Eiermann is considered one of the most important German architects of post-war modernism. He was also a furniture designer and university lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Logic, purity and clarity were his architectural maxims.
