The Egelsberger mill, also Egelsberg-mill or Egelsberg mill called, located in Krefeld district Traar. The windmill presents itself as a landmark that can be seen from afar and is regarded as a symbol of the district. The well-known building can even be seen as the main motif on the still young coat of arms of the district.

On the highest point of the Egelsberg, the mill lies at 46 meters above sea level. N. N. in the eponymous open landscape conservation area. The construction on the natural elevation made the accumulation of an artificial mill hill is not required and provided for the necessary wind conditions for operation of the windmill. It is a Dutch-style tower windmill with a wooden shingle hood, four wings and two grinders that are still preserved inside.
The Egelsberger mill was built in 1802 as a grain mill and converted in the 1930s as part of a modernization of wind on engine operation. It was still used electrically until 1942. During the Second World War, the mill came under fire and suffered considerable damage. In 1954, she moved from private ownership to the property of the city of Krefeld. After being declared a monument in 1984, the mill was restored from 1997 to 2002. It has since served as a meeting place for the local population and as a popular destination. Marriages are also possible in the historic ambience.

The care of the Egelsberger mill is carried out since 2016 by the civic association Krefeld-Traar e.V. The association has set itself the goal of extensively renovating the mill. In the future, it will be available as a venue and for club-owned projects. The illumination of the mill in the evening sets them since 1980 in the dark scene.
