Since 1995, the old Rheder parish church of St. Nicholas secularized Memorial Church of the district of Emsland. With the 50th anniversary of the end of the war on May 8, 1945, it became a memorial place for the "victims of the World Wars and National Socialist dictatorship".

From 1964 to 1991 she was "Kreiskriegergedächtniskirche" for the communities of the former district of Aschendorf-Hümmling. It served the memory of the fallen and missing German soldiers of the Second World War. Interesting is the narrowed perspective on the war victims.

The rededication of the church took place step by step after the construction of the new, large parish church of St. Nicholas 1913/14 in today's center. A permanent exhibition on the remembrance culture of the place, a historical organ from the 18th century, statues of saints and the impressive construction of the church itself - both inside and outside - make the visit worthwhile.
