Bob Geldof was born here. His mother died young, his father traveled a lot, so the boy buried himself in books and listened to the radio a lot. He formed a band, the Boomtown Rats, whose most famous song, "I Don't Like Mondays", probably everyone has in their ears and can sing along to the chorus. In 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Spencer shot the elementary school across the street, killing the principal and janitor and injuring several students; "I don't like mondays" was her reason.
Geldof became known as the initiator of "Live Aid", the charity concerts on June 13, 1985 in London, at which Queen, Madonna, David Bowie, Elton John, Tina Turner, U2 and Led Zeppelin, among others, performed. Two billion people are said to have seen the concerts on television, and they grossed 127 million dollars.
We had mourning at Nick Cave in Brighton. Geldof also suffered blows of fate. His ex-wife Paula Yeats, previously eloped with INXS singer Hutchence, died of a heroin overdose. Since Hutchence also died under the influence of alcohol and drugs, he probably committed suicide at the peak of his career, and Geldof adopted their daughter. In 2014, his birth daughter died of an overdose. "When something bad like this happens, it's impossible to describe the grief you go through," he said; we heard something similar from Nick Cave.
