Schludernser Torturm, Glurns

Glurns is located at the transition from the Lower to the Upper Vinschgau, at the entrance to the Munster Valley. The only place in Vinschgau with town rights has a rarely well-preserved Renaissance town fortification from the 16th century with a closed town wall, seven round corner and wall towers (designed as shell towers - open inwards) and 3 gate towers (Münsterer or Tauferer Tor, Schludernser Tor [Spatzenturm] and Malser Tor).

All components have interesting structural details (covered battlement, loopholes, cast bay window, gate gate guides).

The first city fortifications from the second half of the 13th century were demolished together with the city in 1499, only the sparrow tower remained largely intact.

The city wall separates the city into a so-called inner and outer city.

For centuries, the Schluderns Gate Tower protected the town from invaders, and since 2011 it has also been a popular tourist attraction. At that time, the exhibition "Stations of a Small Town" was opened, which tells the story of Glurns on two floors. Information boards and objects introduce you to trade and defense, markets and professions, as well as life in Glurns in this unique setting. A corner roundel, part of the battlement, can also be reached from the Schluderns Gate Tower.
