Zwernitz Castle, first mentioned in documents in 1156, is perched on a huge rock massif. At that time, the 32-meter high keep was used for the transmission of smoke signals to Plassenburg to Kulmbach. From the castle you have a magnificent view over the Franconian Switzerland. In the immediate vicinity of the castle Zwernitz is the rock garden Sanspareil with the Oriental building.

Zwernitz Castle, which was probably built in the middle of the 12th century, experienced destruction and reconstruction in its eventful history. Its current appearance mainly dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. Very beautiful and well-preserved castle complex. Worth seeing.

The former castle well dates back to around 1200. It was located in the Zwinger area of the outer bailey. It carried water until 1951, after which it dried up. It is 50 meters deep, 40 meters of which are carved into bare rock.
