The narrow cobbled streets of Ribeira are dotted with small bars and restaurants serving classic Portuguese dishes, such as grilled sardines. Next to the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira is surrounded by colorful houses from the 18th century.

You can walk along the boulevard along the river Douro. You will find many cozy restaurants here where you can eat something delicious or have a drink. There is a wonderful atmosphere, which is partly created by the street musicians and dancers who perform there.

Picturesque promenade along the Douro River on several levels. Cais da Ribeira is the name of the street. With good parking at the beginning of the promenade. Restaurants and cafes are lined up next to each other. Music everywhere in the evening. The river cruise ships dock at the river port. Imposing bridges cross the river valley at high altitude. Opposite are the port wine cellars. The old houses are colourful, often several stories high and picturesquely set in the area. Likewise in the alleys behind the promenade. However, it is very touristy here in terms of prices and the quality of the food on offer. As always in such places: drinking coffee is enough to enjoy. You eat where the Portuguese go to eat. And definitely not here. For an evening promenade but very nice. If the weather cooperates. Highly recommended.
